The Rockies have won the first two games of the series, and look for the sweep at Chase Field Thursday afternoon. That, in itself, is a challenge. The Rockies have had a winning record in only 14 of 60 previous series at Chase Field, and have swept a series only four times -- in 1998, 2004, 2016 and 2018. By contrast, the Rockies have been swept in 18 series at Chase Field.
Jeff Hoffman starts for the Rockies. He is 1-2 lifetime against the D-backs, but that one win is his only win in four decisions with the Rockies this year. Robbie Ray, who is 1-3 in his last four starts, will be on the mound for the D-backs.
Hoffman has made three career starts against the D-backs, spread over the last four seasons. No current Diamondbacks player has more than six at-bats against him. Ray, meanwhile, has an extensive history against the Rockies, and it isn't pretty against the likes of Nolan Arenado (.368 in 38 at-bats) and Charlie Blackmon (.462 in 39 at-bats).
