The Giants won't go away. After sweeping the Rockies they returned home for a weekend series with the Mets, and on Friday night they pulled out a 1-0, 10-inning victory. Yes, pulled out. Consider that Alex Dickerson led off the bottom of the 10th with a walk, after back-to-back strikeouts, Pablo Sandoval's fly ball to left was misplayed by Dominic Smith, and Dickerson scored from first. The Giants are now two games back in the Wild Card race despite a 49-49 record (and that includes a current seven-game winning streak).
With the win against the Rockies, the Yankees have now won four in a row while Tampa Bay has been losing four in a row. That has allowed the Yankees to take a nine-game lead in the AL East.
The Cardinals went into the sixth inning of their game at Cincinnati on Friday night trailing 7-0. By the end of the sxith, the Cardinals had sent 13 batters to the plate. Ten of the 13 scored. and the Cardinals were on their way to a 12-11 come-from-behind victory. That has allowed the Cardinals to maintain a percentage point edge on the battle for the second NL Wild Card.
