Ryan Rolison, the Rockies No. 1 draft choice last June, had a big day on Monday. First, he was selected the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for April 15-21. Then he was promoted from Low-A Asheville to High-A Lancaster.
Rolison was 2-1 with a 0.61 ERA in three starts at Asheville, including retiring the first 16 batters in six shutout innings at Hickory last week. The lefthander, who was drafted out of the University of Mississippi, allowed two hits and struck out seven without issuing a walk.
In three starts with Asheville Rolison allowed one earned run, giving up eight hits and two walks in 14 2/3 innings. He struck out 14.
Rolison debuted at rookie-level Grand Junction last year and was 0-1 in nine starts but had a 1.86 ERA. He allowed only 23 base runners – 15 hits and eight walks – in 29 innings while striking out 34.

AAA Albuquerque (7-10) lost 8-6 against Tacoma (Mariners). Tacoma rallied for five runs in the ninth off Yency Almonte (0-1, 4.50) in which he allowed five runs, three unearned, on two hits, a walk, two strikeouts, and a throwing error. Yonathan Daza (.395) was 2-for-5 with his first home run of the season in the third, and an RBI double in the seventh. Brian Mundell (.396) was 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the seventh. Roberto Ramos (.333) hit his sixth home run in the eighth.
AA Hartford (8-10) lost 7-0 at Portland (Red Sox). Brandon Gold (1-1, 6.61) gave up five runs, four earned, on seven hits and a walk, striking out five in two innings. Bret Boswell (.226) led off the fourth with a single, the Yard Goats only hit in a rain-shortened five-inning game.
High A Lancaster (8-10) won 2-1 at Lake Elsinore. Lucas Gilbreath (2-0, 2.41) allowed one run on one hit, walking four and striking out five in five innings. Tommy Doyle (0.00) worked a scoreless ninth for his fourth save. Shortstop Ryan Vilade (.323) doubled home Matt Hearn, who led off the first inning with a triple. Luis Castro (.324) singled home a run in the sixth.
Low A Asheville (7-10) lost 5-2 at Delmarva (Baltimore). Coco Montes singled home two runs in the third. Delmarva rallied for four runs in the eighth inning against Jake Bird (1-1, 3.29) on a walk, two hit batters, a wild pitch, passed ball and two-out double. Nick Bush (7.11) started and allowed one run on six hits, striking three in five innings.
