Mauricio Gonzalez will return for his 20th season as manager of the Rockies Dominican Summer League One affiliate, the Rockies announced. Hitting coach Eugenio Jose will be back for a 14th season, and coach Florentio Nuenz will be in his 12th season in the Dominican Summer League.
After orginally signing with the A's as a player in 1989, Gonzalez played in the Rockies organization (1992-95) and spent 1996 in the Indians organization. He later played professionally in Taiwan (1996) and Italy (1997). Jose signed with the Rockies as a player in 1999, and spent three years in the franchise's minor league system. Nunez also is a product of the Rockies farm system, playing every infield and outfield position during his six-year career (2001-06).
The same coaching staff that oversaw the Rockies second Dominican Summer League affiliate in its first season, 2018, will return in 2019. Julio Campos will be in his eighth season in the Rockies organization, second as the manager of the team. Pitching coach Helmis Rodrigues and Michael Ramirez also are returning from the inaugural season of 2018.
Campos also is a scout in Puerto Rico, where he worked for the MLB Puerto Rico Baseball Academy as an infield instructor (2002-12) before joining the Rockies organization. He was a draft choice of the Phillies in 2000 out of Indian Hills Community College in Iowa.
Ramirez was a catcher in the Rockies system from 2007-14, and served as the bullpen catcher for Triple-A Albuquerqie from 2016-17. Rodriguez signed with the Rockies at the age of 16, and pitched in the system from 2011-17.
