Farm Report: Fans Fill Up Dunkin' Donut Park to Celebrate 1st-Place Yard Goats

The Rockies AA Hartford affiliate moved into first place in the Eastern League Eastern Division with an 8-4 win against Binghamton (Mets) on Friday night. It's the first time the Yard Goats have been in first place since May 14, 2016.

The fans continue to be supportive. Hartford had its 16th sellout of the season on Friday night, and for 28 home dates they have averaged 5,657 for game attendance.

In Friday's Games

AAA Albuquerque (28-34) won 8-4 at Iowa (Cubs). Trailing 4-2 going into the eighth, the Isotopes scored four runs in the eighth inning, including bases loaded walks to Noel Cuevas (.325) and Roberto Ramos (.280), and two more in the ninth. Ramos also hit his 14th home run of the season in the second. Dom Nunez (.277) also hit a home run, his ninth, driving in two runs. DJ Johnson (3-0, 8.56) worked two scoreless innings for the win. Ryan Castellani (7.14) allowed four runs, two earned, on eight hits and a walk, striking out seven, in six innings.

AA Hartford (35-24) won 8-4 against Binghamton (Mets). Colton Welker (.308) was 2-for-4 with a run scored, four RBI, a double and his seventh home run. He homered in the first inning, and then delivered a two-run doubled to cap the go-ahead three-run seventh. Brandon Gold (3.63) started and allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk, striking out five in six innings. He also hit his second home run. Heath Holder (4-1, 1.45), who blew a save for the third time, allowed one run on two hits in one inning, and was credited with the win.

High A Lancaster (29-30) lost 5-0 at Lake Elsinore (Padres), which moved into second place in the South Division, a game ahead of Lancaster. Lucas Gilbreath (2-4, 5.05) suffered the loss, allowing five runs, three earned, on five hits and two walks, striking out three in four innings. The Jet Hawks were limited to a single by Matt McLaughlin (.242) and double from Austin Bernard (.223).

Low A Asheville (26-35) won 4-1 at Charleston (Yankees), despite starting pitcher Ryan Feltner (4.57) being ejected after 2 2/3 scoreless innings after Charleston manager Julio Mosquera complained about the length of the strings on Feltner's glove. Jake Bird (4-1, 2.85) worked 3 1/3 scoreless innings after replacing Feltner, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out six. Alexander Martinez (2.92) got the final out for his 12th save. Grant Lavigne (.249) was 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and RBI.
