Rockies Confirm Valaika Recalled; Hampson Optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque

BOSTON – The Colorado Rockies announced Tuesday they have recalled infielder Pat Valaika from Triple-A Albuquerque, and optioned infielder Garrett Hampson to Triple-A.

Valaika was originally called up by the Rockies on April 1, but was optioned to the Isotopes on April 23 after being recalled on April 1. He hit .074 with three runs scored, one double, four walks and 13 strikeouts in 15 games with the Rockies before the return to Albuquerque.

Getting regular playing time at Albuqerque, he appeared in 17 games, and hit .333 (23-for-69) with one double, eight home runs and 16 RBI. He has spent parts of each season since 2016 with the Rockies, hitting .209 with 42 runs, 18 doubles, 16 home runs, 47 RBI and 20 walks across 206 career games.

Valaika has played all four infield positions and left field during his big-league time in Colorado.

Hampson was on an Opening Day roster for the first time, splitting time at second base with Ryan McMahon. He hit .194 (18-for-93) with 10 runs scored, two doubles, one triple, one home run, six RBI, four walks and 26 strikeouts in 31 games.

Hampson made 20 starts at second base, two starts in center field and one start in left field.
