SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – The Rockies beat the Giants 9-3 behind a strong start from lefty Kyle Freeland, and an explosive afternoon from infielder Pat Valaika at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick.

--Freeland, making his second start of the spring, walked one and struck out four in three innings. His big out was a strikeout of Brandon Belt with two on and two out in the third.

--Valaika hit two home runs, giving him three for the spring, in his attempt to erase memories of the struggles in 2018, and Nolan Arenado delivered his second home run of the spring.

--Closer Wade Davis made his spring debut, working a scoreless fourth inning. Davis worked earlier in the game so he would face better hitters before the Giants began typical spring lineup changes.

--Center fielder Ian Desmond tripled and singled, scoring one run and driving in another.

--The Rockies had their first home sellout of the spring with an announced crowd of 11,171.

--The Rockies are on the road for the fourth time in five days Monday, traveling to Surprise for a 1:10 p.m, MST, matchup with the Rangers. Right-hander German Marquez is the scheduled starter.
