In some ways, Peter Lambert’s debut Tuesday night at Coors Field for the Colorado Rockies surpassed his memorable major league debut five days earlier.

He faced the Chicago Cubs in consecutive starts, so Lambert didn't break in against a bottom-feeder. It’s never an easy task for a pitcher to make back-to-back starts against the same opponent, let alone for a 22-year-old rookie in his first two games in the majors.

Last Thursday at Wrigley Field, Lambert was dazzling as he limited the Cubs to four hits and one run in seven innings with one walk and nine strikeouts. He threw 63 of 95 pitches for strikes and earned the win in Colorado’s 3-1 victory.

This time, Lambert wasn’t as sharp. He worked five innings without setting down the Cubs in order. But the damage was minimal _ three hits and one run on Jason Heyward’s home run in the second. Lambert issued two walks, twice hit Kris Bryant with pitches and struck out three in an 83-pitch outing that included 51 strikes. He left with a 2-1 lead in what became a 10-3 romp by the Rockies. The win extended their home winning streak to 10 games, one shy of the franchise record they set in 1996.
